Leeds is gearing up for one of its most talked-about openings as Federal confirms it will launch in the city on Monday 15th December, marking the first Yorkshire location for the UK’s most popular independent brunch spot. To celebrate, the café will be giving away 1,000 free coffees from 8am on 20th and 21st December.
Crowds joining the queue can also expect exclusive prize giveaways and the chance to pick up limited-edition Leeds merchandise created for the launch. Federal will debut a new Leeds Latte Martini too, designed as a nod to the city’s cocktail culture.
Founded in Manchester in 2014, Federal has built a wide following thanks to its Kiwi and Aussie-inspired approach to all-day brunch, quality coffee and its friendly neighbourhood feel. Its canned iced Matcha range has been a viral hit on TikTok, helping to grow a loyal online fanbase alongside the queues that have become a trademark of each opening.
The brand, created by owner Claudio Ribeiro, now operates four Manchester sites and has grown through its focus on fresh, made-in-house dishes and strong relationships with local suppliers. Leeds guests can expect signature plates such as French toast, steak and eggs, and halloumi and shrooms, alongside weekly specials. The drinks list will feature coffee, teas, juices, wine, beer and cocktails.
Ribeiro said: “We’re incredibly excited to officially announce 15th December as our opening date. There’s a real buzz around Federal coming to Leeds, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone in. Leeds shares so much of the energy we love about Manchester a thriving independent scene and a genuine passion for great food and coffee. Federal is known for its ‘Sunny Side Service’ ethos, aiming to ensure everyone leaves feeling better than when they arrived. Each site has its own identity but retains the warm, community-focused style that has shaped the brand’s success.
The café was recently named the UK’s most popular independent coffee shop in a global study by Betway, ranking fourth worldwide with more than 1.1 million TikTok views and almost 400,000 annual Google searches.
