Balance beats speed at the latest new opening at Dean Clough in Halifax, as independent operator MAMIL Café Bars officially launches its fourth venue in the region.
Named Pedal & Pour by MAMIL, the space is the newest addition to Dean Clough’s thriving café culture. While its theme directly celebrates the popular sport of cycling, the venue is designed to bring more balance than speed to the busy lives of the Calderdale community, positioning itself as a community hub and breathing space rather than a quick pit stop.
The family-run operation, which stands for Middle Aged Man In Lycra, first launched in Brighouse in 2021, followed by sites in Halifax town centre in 2024 and Hebden Bridge in 2025. This latest expansion sees the brand secure a five-year lease on a prominent 2,080 sq ft ground-floor unit inside the main mill building at Dean Clough. The location sits at the absolute heart of the landmark site, where over 3,000 people work daily and thousands more visit the renowned on-site art galleries and theatre.
Pedal & Pour serves up locally roasted coffee, craft beers, wine, and cocktails, alongside a diverse food menu spanning from daytime brunch and grazing plates to more hearty evening dishes.

David Van Gestel, founder and owner of MAMIL, said: “We are delighted to open our fourth venue at Dean Clough, which provides a wonderful destination backdrop for our growing customer base. Balance and handling are the true foundation for success in achieving your goal safely while conserving energy in the sport of cycling. Pedal & Pour reflects that ethos in many ways, creating a special place where the community can pause, connect, collaborate and support one another.”
Jeremy Hall, Chairman and Managing Director at Dean Clough, added: “It is wonderful that MAMIL has chosen to locate its fourth venue with us. Its family-focused proposition perfectly aligns with that of Dean Clough, and Pedal & Pour is such a great addition to the wealth of amenities we already have here.”
Driven by a distinct community focus, the venue features a public display board inside for customers and local organisations to share business information, promote upcoming events, and post general notices. The business has also committed to annual fundraising initiatives funded by a portion of food sales alongside dedicated events throughout the year. For its inaugural charity partner, Pedal & Pour will support Bowel Cancer UK, with founder David taking on the London to Brighton cycle ride this September to raise vital funds.
The destination itself, a former textile manufacturing site spanning over half a mile on the edge of Halifax town centre, has been progressively transformed over the last 40 years into an award-winning, highly sustainable destination for work, retail, leisure, and cultural amenities.
