Kerala Canteen, Leeds’ vibrant South Indian eatery, has just launched a brand-new menu, fusing the rich flavours of Kerala with local Yorkshire ingredients.
Located on St. Peter’s Street, the restaurant has made a name for itself with Kerala-style tapas, Indian-inspired cocktails and a relaxed, late-night vibe. Its refreshed menu takes things a step further, drawing on traditional toddy shop culture from southern India where food, community and conversation come together.
Founder and former MasterChef quarter-finalist Bobby Geetha describes the new offering as a tribute to his roots. “Growing up in Kerala, food was always about community, family and bold, soulful flavours that tell a story,” he said. “We’ve taken traditional recipes passed down through generations and given them a fresh Yorkshire twist.”

The standout dish so far is the Beef Brisket Biryani. Made with 12-hour marinated Yorkshire brisket, it is layered with fragrant rice, crispy shallots and mint raita. It is a rich, slow-cooked dish that combines the essence of South Indian cuisine with the finest local produce.
Alongside new curries, snacks and cocktails, Kerala Canteen has also introduced a weekday set menu. For £22.95 per person, diners can enjoy one tapas plate, one wholesome bowl, one signature side and a dessert. It is an ideal choice for lunch, casual dining or pre-theatre plans.
Head Chef Abdulkhader Allingal Siddique said, “At its core, this menu is about connection, to our heritage, our community and the joy of gathering around a great meal. We want every guest to feel that warmth and authenticity.”
Kerala Canteen is now taking bookings and welcoming guests keen to try the new menu. You can visit www.keralacanteen.com for more details or to make a reservation.
