Federal, named the UK’s most popular independent café, is set to open its first Yorkshire venue this autumn with a new site on Boar Lane in Leeds.
The Manchester-born brand, established in 2014, has become well known for its Antipodean-inspired brunch dishes, speciality coffee and its signature “Sunny Side Service”. The new 1,500 sq ft café will seat 70 guests and bring the same all-day menu and laid-back atmosphere that has made Federal a favourite across its four existing outlets in the North West.

Owner Claudio Ribeiro said: “Choosing Leeds for our first café outside Manchester felt like the natural next step. Leeds has many similarities to Manchester with the same buzz and a growing independent brunch and coffee scene.
“We don’t expand for the sake of it; we wait for the right time and the right energy for Federal. Everything we do is fuelled by passion for great brunch and great coffee and creating the perfect space for every occasion and every type of customer. Now feels like the perfect time to bring the Federal experience to Yorkshire and join Leeds’ growing independent food and drink scene.”

Diners in Leeds can expect brunch staples such as French toast, steak and eggs, and haloumi and shrooms, alongside rotating specials. Drinks will include freshly brewed coffee and teas, juices, wine, beer and cocktails.

Federal recently attracted attention on social media for its canned iced Matcha and was named the UK’s most popular independent café in a study by Betway, ranking fourth globally with over 1.1 million TikTok views and almost 400,000 annual Google searches.
Each Federal café is individually designed, and the Leeds space will feature bright colours, greenery, artwork and an open kitchen. Fit out work is already underway ahead of its opening later this year.
