Award-winning independent brewery Northern Monk will open its new York site this month with a weekend of celebrations, giveaways and beer.
The new Refectory, located on Little Stonegate, opens its doors on Friday 24th October. Across the opening weekend, visitors can expect DJs, raffles, exclusive beer tastings and the chance to meet the Northern Monk team. Each day, 200 free pints, 200 free slices of pizza and 50 goody bags will be handed out.
On Sunday 26th October, the venue will open at 10am to launch its brunch menu. The food line-up comes from Supamarkets, a collective behind venues including Belgrave Music Hall, Ox Club and House of Fu in Leeds. The York kitchens will serve three new street food concepts: New York-style pizza from Yonkers, Japanese-inspired snacks from Fu Express, and tacos from Crudo Cantina.

Spread across a historic townhouse, Refectory York features a 20-tap bar, a snug, a tasting room, outdoor space and a first-floor dining area. It is Northern Monk’s first new Refectory in seven years, joining its Leeds and Manchester venues.
Russell Bisset, Founder and Managing Director at Northern Monk, said: “We’re stoked to announce the opening dates for Northern Monk Refectory York. There’ll be loads going on across launch weekend, the pints and slices will be flying, we hope you can join us for the party.”
He commented: “York is one of the UK’s most iconic cities, we’re honoured to be opening our doors here. In collaboration with our friends at Supamarkets, the new Refectory site is shaping up to be an incredible venue – a space that brings people together and celebrates Northern culture and community. We can’t wait to share it with you in just a few weeks’ time.”
The York launch follows Northern Monk’s successful crowdfunding campaign, which set out its plans to become Europe’s largest craft brewery by 2035. Further Refectory sites are already planned.
