The Great Yorkshire Show, one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the UK’s agricultural calendar, is set to welcome a new and exciting feature this year – The Great Yorkshire Inn, managed by the independent, family-owned brewery T&R Theakston.
Attendees of the show, which runs from the 9th to the 12th of July, will have the opportunity to sample a selection of Theakston’s renowned beers at the main bar marquee. Among the offerings will be timeless favourites such as Old Peculier and Best Bitter, as well as newer additions like the popular 3.4% Quencher and the recently launched Peculier IPA. Alongside the bar, an accompanying shop will allow visitors to take home the distinguished flavours of Theakston’s nearly 200 years of brewing heritage.
Theakston, known for being one of the last breweries in the country with an in-house cooperage, will also provide live demonstrations of the traditional craft of barrel making. These demonstrations will be led by Journeyman Cooper Euan Findlay, showcasing the intricate skills that go into creating the barrels essential for ageing their acclaimed beers.
Simon Theakston, chairman of Theakston Brewery, expressed his enthusiasm for the brewery’s involvement in the event. “Having been long-standing supporters of the Show over many years, we’re thrilled to be bringing The Great Yorkshire Inn to the Great Yorkshire Show and continuing our support for the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, widely acclaimed to be organisers of the greatest agricultural show in the country,” he said.
Simon’s deep-rooted connection with the Yorkshire Agricultural Society dates back to 1983, during which time he has held numerous significant roles, including stewardship, trustee, board member, chairman, and president. His commitment to the society and the show is mirrored in Theakston’s dedication to supporting local agriculture and producing quality beers with ingredients sourced from Yorkshire and the north of England.
“Throughout our almost two centuries of business, we’ve always been incredibly proud of our Yorkshire roots and brewing heritage,” Simon continued. “It’s a pleasure to come together with similarly like-minded businesses to celebrate the fantastic quality produce grown and made here in our heartland. We’re looking forward to what is sure to be another wonderful show.”
Charles Mills, Show Director, shared his excitement about the new addition to the show. “Simon Theakston has been closely involved with Yorkshire Agricultural Society since 1983 and has taken on a number of important roles over the years which support the Show. We are delighted to welcome The Great Yorkshire Inn as a new addition to the Show this year and are sure it will go down a storm with visitors.”
Now in its 165th year, the Great Yorkshire Show is a grand celebration of agriculture, food, farming, and the countryside, organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. The event is expected to attract 140,000 visitors over its four-day run, making it one of the largest agricultural events in the UK.
