Trinity Leeds has announced that Freight Island, the team behind some of the UK’s most popular food halls and entertainment venues, will operate its newly expanded Trinity Kitchen, promising a unique dining and leisure experience for the city.
Since opening in 2013, Trinity Kitchen has become a hub for independent street-food traders, hosting almost 300 operators and attracting over 800,000 visitors each year. The upcoming £15 million expansion is the largest investment in Trinity Leeds since the centre opened, transforming a previously unused 15,000 sq ft space into a 63,000 sq ft multi-level food and leisure destination, complete with a striking outdoor terrace overlooking City Square.

Construction is set to begin in late spring 2026, with Trinity Kitchen remaining open throughout. Freight Island, which operates the hugely popular Depot Mayfield site in Manchester and is opening in Newcastle later this year, will bring its signature mix of street food, independent eateries, live music, and cultural events to Leeds.
Steven Foster, Centre Director at Trinity Leeds, said: “Our new plans will mark Trinity Kitchen’s most exciting chapter yet. Freight Island will help elevate our food and drink offering, creating an immersive venue with exciting opportunities for new brands and operators. Together, we’ll ensure Trinity Kitchen continues to grow as a best-in-class food and leisure destination.”
Dan Morris, Managing Director of Freight Island, added: “Leeds has a thriving food and cultural scene, and we’re excited to bring our experience to Trinity Leeds. This expansion allows us to support local talent, create jobs, and offer a new level of dining, entertainment, and social experiences for the city.”
The upgraded Trinity Kitchen will feature independent chefs, live DJs, cultural performances, and family-friendly events, making it a vibrant new destination for locals and visitors alike.
