Britain’s picnic tastes are changing, and the latest data shows it’s official: tzatziki has taken the top spot as the UK’s most searched-for picky bit.
The findings come from the team at Britsuperstore, who analysed UK search data over the past three summers (May to August, 2022 to 2024). Using Ahrefs’ search tool, they looked at over 30 popular picnic foods and found that more than 750,000 people were looking up tzatziki during the warmer months.
That puts it ahead of some serious picnic staples. Potato salad, hummus, pasta salad and guacamole round out the top five, with crusty baguettes and crisps not far behind.
One striking detail? Not a single meat product made it into the top ten. No sausage rolls, cocktail sausages or pork pies. Instead, the top-ranking items are mostly veggie-friendly, with a strong focus on dips, salads and crunchy sides like gherkins and olives.

Richard Price, Grocery Expert at Britsuperstore, says it reflects a shift in how we snack.
“Tzatziki taking the top spot is a real sign of how British tastes are expanding,” he said. “It’s cool, herby and incredibly versatile, perfect for dipping or throwing on a salad. Comfort foods like potato salad and hummus are still holding their own, but more people are clearly looking for global flavours and lighter options.”
He also noted how crusty baguettes, once a picnic go-to, are slipping down the list. It may be that more people are grazing on picky plates rather than packing sandwiches.
So, what does a 2025 picnic look like? According to the data, it’s likely to feature a tub of tzatziki, something to dip, a fresh salad or two and a few crunchy extras like gherkins or olives. And while the sausage roll isn’t gone just yet, it might be sitting further down the blanket than it used to.
