Veg’chop Lands in Tesco: The New Plant-Based Ingredient Shaking Up Mealtimes

A new plant-based product has arrived in Tesco stores across the UK. Veg’chop, developed by Oh So Wholesome, is now available in 649 branches and offers a different approach to cooking with plants.

The idea came from co-founders Jason Gibb and Simon Day, who were looking for something that was healthy, convenient and didn’t rely on heavily processed ingredients. Frustrated by the limited choices in the plant-based aisle, they decided to make something new.

“I wanted to eat a wider variety of plants, but they often took too long to prepare or I didn’t know what to do with them,” says Gibb. “I found myself eating a lot of tofu and getting very bored of it. I started wondering if there was a way to solve both problems at once.”

That thought led to Veg’chop. It’s made from everyday ingredients like lentils, quinoa, sweet potato and chia seeds, and contains ten different plants in every portion. The product is designed to be easy to use and fit into regular meals.

It comes in two flavours, Original and Mexican, with a savoury taste and a slight nutty note. Veg’chop can be added to pasta, stirred into sauces, chopped into curries or used in sandwiches and salads.

“Although it is a new concept, people will already be familiar with the ingredients we use,” says Day. “We wanted something that tasted like the plants it was made from and made a change from tofu and tempeh.”

Veg’chop aims to give people a practical way to eat more plants without needing to spend extra time in the kitchen. It focuses on whole ingredients and flexibility, rather than trying to replicate meat or follow food trends.

Now in Tesco stores, it’s another option for anyone looking to build meals around simple, plant-based food.
