Yorkshire-based chef Kurtus Auty, Head Chef at Bosun’s Restaurant in York and owner of KA Private Chefs, has advanced to the UK final of the renowned S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Competition. The competition, which seeks to discover and nurture the world’s most inspiring young chefs, will hold its UK final at Le Cordon Bleu in London on 25th September 2024.
Kurtus is among nine finalists under the age of 30 who were selected from thousands of global applicants. These young chefs impressed an international panel of judges with their creativity and vision for the future of gastronomy. Kurtus, who is largely self-taught and honed his skills by watching YouTube videos, has worked at renowned establishments, including Gordon Ramsay’s Maze, Michelin-starred Pétrus, and Monica Galetti’s Mere Restaurant.
Reflecting on his nomination, Kurtus said: “I am really excited to be a part of the competition and to share my cooking skills with my peers. I am proud of my dish and hope it impresses the judges too.”
The UK judging panel includes celebrated chefs Adam Smith, Lorna McNee, Nokx Majozi, and Santiago Lastra. The finalists will present their signature dishes, and the panel will award four prestigious titles, including the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Award. The winner will represent the UK at the global Grand Finale in Milan next year, receiving mentorship from top chefs to refine their dishes in preparation for the international stage.
