TV chef Ainsley Harriott has returned to Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa, stepping straight into the kitchen to help prepare dinner for young people, families, and staff.
The visit gave Ainsley a chance to see the newly transformed Teenage Wing, which recently opened as part of the hospice’s £21.9 million redevelopment project, THE BUILD. After touring the new facilities, he joined the catering team to put the finishing touches on the evening meal before meeting families staying at the hospice.

“While on my tour, I couldn’t resist slipping my apron on and helping out in the kitchen. The catering team do an amazing job feeding families and the care team, and I’ve been told just how much families appreciate the food they provide. Having tasted some of the meals today, I’m not surprised!”

This was the Ready Steady Cook star’s second visit to the Boston Spa facility, having previously toured the new Children’s Wing ahead of a fundraising ball last year.
Home-cooked food plays a major role in the support provided by Martin House. Caring for a child with a life-shortening condition makes finding time to prepare proper meals tough, so the hospice’s kitchen staff provide fresh, free meals every day to take that weight off parents’ shoulders.
Vicki Greensmith, Director of Clinical Services at Martin House, said the team was delighted to welcome Ainsley back, adding that having him help cook dinner made the visit extra special for everyone staying at the hospice.
Martin House supports more than 550 children, young people, and their families across North, West, and East Yorkshire every year. More information about their work and how to donate is available on the Martin House website.
