Employees from Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Doncaster have teamed up to pack and donate more than 750 baby care kits to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The hospital, which is part of the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, provides essential emergency, specialist, and inpatient care across South Yorkshire. The newly donated kits are packed with essential items for newborns and infants, designed to support vulnerable local families who are struggling to afford the basics during the critical early weeks of parenthood.
The donation drive took place as part of Amazon’s Global Month of Volunteering throughout May, an initiative where thousands of employees across the UK take part in community support projects.
Beyond local volunteering, Amazon supports wider community initiatives, including co-founding the Multibank project with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The scheme has already distributed more than 12 million surplus goods to over 800,000 families across the country and aims to send out another 1 million orders to UK families this year.
Laura Smart, an employee at Amazon’s Doncaster fulfilment centre who took part in the packing, said:
“Volunteering for Doncaster Royal Infirmary with my teammates this month meant a lot to me. It says something about a workplace when it puts its people and resources behind causes that matter, and being given paid time off to take part made a real difference. It let me show up for my community in a way that would be hard to manage on my own time. Doing it shoulder-to-shoulder with my colleagues made it even more rewarding.”
