Students from Leeds Trinity University have been given a rare look at the inner workings of one of the world’s largest retailers during a tour of Amazon’s Leeds fulfilment centre.
Led by Senior Operations Manager David Buckley, the group from the Horsforth-based university followed the journey of a customer order from start to finish. The visit covered the entire logistics chain, showing how products are stored, picked, packed, and eventually shipped to homes across the region.
The tour also highlighted the role of technology in modern business, with students seeing firsthand how digital systems support human workers at every stage. Joining the university cohort were 12 members of the Harehills-based Catch Youth Group, who also explored the site to learn about local employment prospects.
Josh Vause, Site Leader at Amazon in Leeds, said: “We were pleased to welcome the students and youth group to our site. It’s great to show young people how a modern fulfilment centre works, and to provide an insight into the wide variety of jobs and development opportunities that are available at Amazon right here in Leeds.”
For the students, the visit offered a practical look at the scale of professional operations. Farhan Abbas, a student at Leeds Trinity, said: “It was really interesting to see how everything fits together at Amazon in Leeds. I was especially surprised by how much technology is involved and how organised the process is.”
Abbas commented: “It’s made me think more about how modern businesses work, and will help shape what I’d like to do with my career after university.”
