Dogs Take Centre Stage at the National Coal Mining Museum

Dog lovers and their four-legged friends are invited to the National Coal Mining Museum for England on Saturday, 20 September for Paws at the Pit. The event promises a day packed with dog-friendly fun, family activities, and plenty of treats for both pets and owners.

Visitors can explore a pooch play area, browse pet-friendly stalls, and enjoy doggie goodies throughout the museum grounds. An artisan market curated by Tilly & Primrose will feature more than 30 independent businesses and charities selling handcrafted items and local surprises. Families can join in free crafts, face painting, and balloon modelling.

The highlight is the Best in Show Competition at 1:30pm, with categories like Smallest Big Personality, Biggest Lap Dog, Waggiest Tail, Best Ears, Best Senior (7+ years), and Most Like Their Owner. Entries can be made online or on the day.

Lynn Dunning, CEO of the National Coal Mining Museum, said: “Our furry friends are always welcome at the Museum, and our beautiful outdoor spaces are the perfect place to take them for a relaxing stroll. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the fresh air, stunning surroundings and take a break at our new look café, which is pet friendly for the day, while you’re here.”

Paws at the Pit promises a day where dogs really are the stars. More information is at www.ncm.org.uk/whats-on/paws-at-the-pit/
