Pixels are breaking free from the confines of screens and transforming into dynamic toys, tools, and canvases at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The museum’s latest digital exhibition, Pixel Play, offers a unique, interactive experience where pixels become dancing projections, playful creatures, and dot-based creations.

Now open to the public, Pixel Play features two cutting-edge interactive digital installations: Circle Triangle Square (CTS) and Gecko Jam.
Circle Triangle Square (CTS), conceived by interactive artist and Eureka! technician James Brooks, invites visitors to become part of the artwork. Using movement tracking and large-scale projection technology, illuminated geometric shapes mimic visitors’ movements, creating a giant, kaleidoscopic shadow.

Gecko Jam marks the return of the artistic duo Nicola Schauerman and Tim Pickup, known as Genetic Moo. This installation allows participants to choose a digital gecko and create an environment for it. Visitors can feed, water, shelter, and nurture their geckos, and collaborate with others to observe how different diets and environments affect the creatures. Gecko Jam is part of Pixel Play through a collaboration with Lumen Studios.
Designed for children aged 0-11, Pixel Play offers something for everyone, from budding art enthusiasts to curious explorers. The exhibition blends creativity and technology, providing a vibrant and engaging experience for all.
Pixel Play is open now at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum. Come and get playful with pixels!
