A high security prison in East Yorkshire is hosting an open day for people to find out more about the extraordinary roles available in the prison.
No previous experience is required to take up a role at HMP Full Sutton, close to York and Stamford Bridge.
The open day will run from 10am to 1pm on 11th November, giving visitors the chance to meet staff from across the establishment. This includes prison officers, operational support grades (OSGs), a vital support role responsible for the day-to-day security, logistics, and smooth operation of a prison, as well as those in administration roles, dog handlers, specialist dedicated search teams, physical education instructors and many other departments.
There will also be demonstrations throughout the day by the different specialist teams in the prison, including dog handlers, offering a rare glimpse into the specialist work undertaken within a high security prison, which accommodates some of the most serious offenders in the country – those who would pose the greatest risk to the public, the police, or national security.
The event is open to anyone with an interest in a career with HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), whether they are considering their first role or looking for a new direction in their career.

Governor at HMP Full Sutton, Shaun Williamson, is encouraging people from the local area to come along and find out more about the roles on offer. Shaun says:
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming local people to our open day to see first-hand what a career at HMP Full Sutton could look like.
“Whether you’re interested in becoming a prison officer, joining our operational support grades, or working in one of our specialist departments, there’s a role here for people from all backgrounds. You don’t need previous experience, as we provide all the training and support you need, and in return you’ll find a close-knit team, strong career development opportunities and real job security.”
Visitors will have the opportunity to speak to serving staff, learn about the breadth of careers on offer and ask any questions they may have before applying.
Being a prison officer is an extraordinary job, done by people from all walks of life. It’s a varied and rewarding career where no two days are the same, and everyday skills can make a real difference.
