Families searching for the perfect day out this February half term can find it in the heart of Hawes, as the Wensleydale Creamery prepares a week of cheesy fun and interactive activities. From 14th to 22nd February, the home of the famous Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese is offering free entry for children aged 16 and under to its Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience.
Visitors to the flagship attraction can dive into the region’s rich cheesemaking heritage with live demonstrations running throughout the day. The experience includes a trip to the Taste of Yorkshire tasting room for guided samples and a chance to peek inside the Creamery to watch the professional cheesemakers at work. For a unique souvenir, guests can also pose for photographs with a special display of knitted Wallace and Gromit characters created by local yarn bombers.
The celebration continues at Calvert’s Restaurant, which has designed a menu specifically for the holidays. Younger fans can enjoy Gromit’s Afternoon Tea for £12 per child, a playful feast featuring cheesy crumpets, mac n cheese, and honeycomb rocky road served in a Gromit mug. For adults, the Cheesy Afternoon Tea is available for £19 per person, offering a range of savoury and sweet dishes including Wensleydale Creamery rarebit and a signature ginger cheese cheesecake, all paired with a pot of Yorkshire Tea.
To round off the visit, the Cheese and Gift Shop provides the opportunity to sample the full range of cheeses and browse local craft beers, spirits, and homewares. Whether you are a dedicated foodie or just looking for a family-friendly escape into the Dales, the Creamery is serving up a true taste of Yorkshire this February.
