Kind Coat Donations at Xscape Help Warm Up West Yorkshire

The Castleford community has once again demonstrated its warmth and generosity by rallying together to donate over 100 winter coats, helping to alleviate the biting cold that often grips West Yorkshire during the winter months.

Xscape Yorkshire spearheaded the initiative, partnering with the Christchurch Cafe team onsite and local charities Airedale Baby & Children’s Bank and The Saviour Trust. Their collective goal: to ensure that those most in need receive the warmth and comfort of winter wear.

Throughout January, the response from visitors has been nothing short of heartwarming, with a remarkable 122 winter coats donated, including 33 for children. These donations will now be diligently distributed by the two charities to individuals and families across the local area, ensuring that warmth reaches those who need it most.

Jayne Willey, Marketing Manager of Xscape Yorkshire, expressed gratitude to the community, stating, “We decided to run this from the start of January because a lot of people get new coats for Christmas. The charities do amazing work within the local communities, and we know that the donations will get to the right people and make a real difference. We’d like to thank everyone who kindly donated.”

The collaboration between Xscape Yorkshire, local charities, and the public underscores the power of collective action in addressing community needs. Willey emphasized the significance of such partnerships, noting, “Creating fun days out as well as supporting and being part of our local community will continue to be a priority for us.”

Visitors to Xscape were encouraged to drop off their winter coat donations at Christchurch Café, located within the iconic leisure destination. Additionally, the café offered a ‘Stay and Chat’ service, extending a listening ear to those who may have felt alone during their visit.

Hannah Iwanuschak, representing The Saviour Trust, highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by many individuals and families, stating, “Times are tough for so many people, and their struggle doesn’t necessarily start at the beginning of winter. The cold snap isn’t over yet, and having a stock of warm coats for the next few months will be a lifeline to many.”

As winter persists, the significance of these donations cannot be overstated. They represent not only material warmth but also a sense of solidarity and care within the community. The collaboration between Xscape Yorkshire, local charities, and the public serves as a testament to the enduring spirit of compassion and support that thrives in West Yorkshire.
