The heart of Leeds is about to take a curious turn. From tomorrow, 26 July, the city centre will become home to Wonderland Awaits, a five-week, free immersive trail designed to spark imaginations and bring a bit of magic to summer.
Presented by LeedsBID under its Welcome to Leeds brand, the experience runs until 31 August and invites families and visitors to explore seven locations across the city, each filled with playful nods to Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Today, Leeds is getting a first look at the magic to come, with two major reveals setting the tone for what promises to be a memorable summer.
At Bridgewater Place, visitors can now spot the ever-grinning Cheshire Cat, brought to life as part of the art trail. Voiced by actor and presenter Tom Read Wilson, this cheeky character will help guide explorers on their journey – if they can catch him before he disappears. The installation marks one of the first public artworks in Bridgewater Place, which houses a mix of businesses, shops and homes.
Meanwhile, Trinity Leeds is turning heads with an enormous new artwork on its glass roof. The 18-metre-wide Cheshire Cat grin now watches over shoppers and visitors, offering a bold window into the world of Wonderland. It’s a striking start to the trail and a sure-fire selfie spot for families beginning their adventure.

Andrew Cooper, Chief Executive of LeedsBID, said:
“We are thrilled to unveil this incredible piece of artwork at Trinity Leeds as we prepare to open Wonderland Awaits. From 26 July, the city will come alive with imagination, wonder and creativity, inviting everyone to join the adventure and make magical memories together.”
Steven Foster, Centre Director at Trinity Leeds, added:
“This year’s Wonderland Awaits experience invites curious minds to follow the trail of imagination, where surprises pop up like a Cheshire Cat’s smile. Our giant grin installation is purr-fectly designed to charm, delight, and inspire a few selfie grins of its own.”
Bridgewater Place is also proud to be part of the fun. Richard Clarke, General Manager, said:
“This installation promises to be a fantastic experience for families, and we’re excited to welcome the community into our building to enjoy this unique and imaginative event.”
Wonderland Awaits officially opens on 26 July and runs through the end of August. With seven locations to explore, hidden clues to discover and a few familiar faces along the way, Leeds city centre is set to become a playground of creativity and adventure.
