As part of its 35th anniversary celebrations, Meadowhall has announced a new public art project that will pay tribute to Sheffield and the people who make it special. The centre is inviting locals to nominate their very own community heroes to be featured in a bold new mural.
The finished artwork will celebrate ten inspiring individuals alongside some of Sheffield’s most recognisable landmarks and cultural icons. It will be created by local artist Luke Horton, whose vibrant style is known for celebrating Yorkshire’s character and creativity.
Nominations are open now and close on Monday 14 July. To put someone forward, members of the public can visit meadowhall.co.uk/competition/sheffield-heroes-wanted and explain who their chosen hero is and why they deserve a place in the mural.
Darren Pearce, centre director at Meadowhall, said:
“Turning 35 is a big moment for Meadowhall, and we wanted to do something really special to celebrate with the community that’s supported us every step of the way. This mural is all about Sheffield and its people – their pride, spirit, and generosity.”
Artist Luke Horton added:
“Sheffield is a city full of character, resilience and creativity, and this is a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the people and places that make it so unique.”
The mural will be unveiled at Meadowhall later this year and will stand as a lasting tribute to the city’s culture, spirit, and community champions.
