A major new care facility has officially opened its doors in Adel, providing much-needed residential, dementia, and respite care for families in North Leeds. Adel Square Care Home, operated by St Mary’s Care Homes, is now welcoming residents to its modern 86-bedroom site following a successful construction period.
The development comes at a critical time for the region, with Leeds currently seeing some of the highest numbers of dementia diagnoses in the country. To meet this demand, the home has been built with specialist dementia-friendly features, including distinct colour-coded zones and themed areas designed to help residents navigate the building with ease.
Facilities at the new home include en-suite bedrooms, a communal café, a music lounge, and landscaped gardens with external terraces. Residents also have access to on-site services such as hairdressing and podiatry, alongside a full daily programme of social activities and games.
The launch follows a visit from Katie White MP OBE, who toured the facility to discuss the growing social care needs in the Leeds North West constituency. Beyond its care provision, the home is a significant boost for the local economy, creating dozens of new jobs across care, hospitality, and support roles.
Steven Davis, CEO of St Mary’s Care Homes, said: “Adel Square reflects our continued commitment to delivering exceptional care, combining a high-quality living environment with compassionate, person-centred support. We had a valuable discussion about the growing care needs within the local community and the important role Adel Square will play in meeting that demand.”

He added: “Our team is proud to provide a safe, supportive and enriching environment for those who need it most.”
The home is led by Registered Manager Diane Atkinson, who brings over 30 years of experience to the role. She commented: “The priority is to establish a home that feels settled and well-run from the outset, with care based around each individual and strong relationships with families.”
Katie White MP OBE said: “With the continuous increase in care needs and the increasing demand for dementia care, new facilities in our local towns are vital. It was a pleasure to visit the impressive new Adel Square care home, creating many new local jobs in our constituency.”
To introduce the new facility to the community, the home will host a public Open Day on Thursday 23rd April between 10am and 2pm. The Lord Mayor is expected to attend the event, which requires no prior booking.
