New Summer Exhibition at National Videogame Museum Invites Visitors to Make It! Play It!

A new hands-on exhibition is launching at the National Videogame Museum on Thursday 24 July, inviting visitors to discover the creative side of gaming.

Make It! Play It! explores the craft behind videogames, from digital design to traditional techniques like clay modelling and embroidery. Families, gamers and curious minds can dive into the making process behind some of the world’s most imaginative titles.

The exhibition celebrates 30 years of LEGO® videogames with a collection of playable classics, including LEGO® Star Wars: The Complete Saga, LEGO® Creator and LEGO® Racers 2. Rare LEGO sets and objects from both the museum’s archive and the LEGO Group’s collection will also be on display.

Visitors will also be among the first to try Platypus Reclayed, a remake of the 2002 claymation-style shoot-‘em-up Platypus, developed by Sheffield-based Claymatic Games in collaboration with original creator Anthony Flack. The game is available exclusively at the museum ahead of its official release.

Other titles on show include handmade indie games like Scarlet Deer Inn, featuring embroidered characters, and The Master’s Pupil, created with hand-painted artwork.

Throughout the summer, free daily drop-in sessions will run from 24 July to 1 September. Guests can try their hand at clay sculpting, LEGO building and animation, guided by the museum’s award-winning learning team.

To make the most of the season, the museum has introduced a ‘One Ticket Play All Summer’ offer, giving visitors the chance to return as often as they like.

Cat Powell, Co-CEO and Director of Visitor Experience at the National Videogame Museum, said:
“With first-ever access to Platypus Reclayed, 30 years of LEGO to explore, and creative activities every day, there’s something for everyone this summer at the NVM.”
