North Yorkshire residents are being reminded to purchase their garden waste collection licence ahead of the service starting in March.
The annual licence costs £52 and covers one 240-litre wheelie bin, collected fortnightly from March through early December. Residents who want more than one bin emptied can purchase a separate licence for each additional bin. In some areas, residents may receive an equivalent number of compostable sacks instead of a wheelie bin.
Cllr Richard Foster, executive member for managing the environment, said: “Having a garden waste licence allows residents to dispose of their waste easily and cost-effectively. We always encourage people to pay for it before the season starts. Although people can pay during the collection period, they will need to wait for their licence to arrive in the post and display it on the bin before collections can begin.”
Once purchased, licence packs are delivered within 14 days. For more information on collection dates and to buy a licence, residents can visit North Yorkshire Council’s garden waste page.
For households with smaller amounts of garden waste, home composting is an option, or residents can take waste to one of 20 household waste recycling centres across the county.
