York’s family-run Pairings Wine Bar has announced it will close its Castlegate venue on Sunday 25th January 2026. The owners, sisters Kate Latham and Kelly Gamble, stated that the closure is due to circumstances beyond their control and is not related to the business’s performance.
Kate Latham said: “We’ve fought hard because our people matter – our team, our guests, and our community. Unfortunately, there is no viable route that allows us to continue trading at this time.”
Kelly Gamble added: “This is not the end of our story. Pairings has always been driven by passion for hospitality and for every guest who walks through our doors. We are proud of what we’ve built and grateful for the loyalty and support of our customers.”
The Pairings team will remain employed, and guests can continue to redeem vouchers while the venue is open. Kate said: “While we may be stepping away from Castlegate, we are not stepping away from what makes Pairings special. This is the close of one chapter, not the end of the story.”
The owners are exploring future opportunities in York and the surrounding area.
