The National Coal Mining Museum for England will host a free weekend of family activities celebrating the work of the emergency services.
Taking place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September, the event will feature the Fire Service, Police, Red Cross and Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Visitors can see live demonstrations, explore vehicles, try out a helicopter simulator and take part in hands-on activities and crafts.
The weekend is designed to give families a closer look at how emergency teams work together, the vehicles they use and the tools that help them save lives. Children can join IzWiz Robotics to build their own LEGO emergency vehicles, while themed crafts, music, interactive sessions and food from the museum’s newly refurbished café will add to the experience.
Lynn Dunning, CEO of the National Coal Mining Museum, said: “It will be an action packed two days celebrating the amazing work of our emergency services and is being held in advance of the national Emergency Services Day on Tuesday, 9 September. Its a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages to meet real-life heroes, see vehicles and emergency equipment up close, and enjoy hands-on activities. There are also opportunities to discover the fascinating history of coal mining through our interactive galleries and see some very special vehicles of our own!”
The museum’s interactive galleries will remain open across the weekend, giving families the chance to explore coal mining history alongside the emergency services celebration.
