Staff at Sheffield Forgemasters paused to remember those who gave their lives in two world wars and the Falklands conflict, during a poignant remembrance service at the Brightside Lane site.
Ruth Crowley, from the South Yorkshire Chaplaincy and Listening service, delivered an outdoor service, which saw wreaths of poppies laid in front of commemorative plaques and a two minute silence at 11am.
Six bronze ‘River Don’ plaques, positioned at the number one gate of the Brightside Lane entrance to Sheffield Forgemasters, list the names of brave steel workers who fell during World War One and World War Two.
Gareth Barker, Chief Operating Officer, said: “We always aim to ensure that remembrance for those who have fallen during conflict is carried out, allowing our staff to pay their respects and today was poignant as we commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Falklands war.
“Our service took place in front of plaques at the site’s gate one entrance, which list many of those who worked at the company and gave their lives during the two world wars. Staff across all areas of the site were invited to pay their respects at 11am.
“It is difficult to do justice to those who sacrificed everything, and those who continue to risk life to protect their country, but we have an obligation to stop and remember the selfless bravery of those men and women.”
Flags at the gate one entrance to Sheffield Forgemasters were lowered to half-mast.
