A major new affordable housing development is now underway in Bridlington, promising to provide much-needed homes in the heart of the town.
The project on Springfield Avenue, led by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will deliver 30 new council homes—comprising 24 one-bedroom apartments and six two-bedroom apartments. The scheme is being built by Yorkshire-based construction firm Hobson & Porter.
Supported by a £2.25 million grant from Homes England and £1 million from the Hull and East Riding devolution settlement, alongside funding from the council’s housing revenue account, the development is a significant investment in the town’s future. The new homes are set to be completed by May 2026 and will be allocated through the council’s housing allocations policy.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the apartments will feature air-source heat pumps, roof-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, and parking spaces equipped with electric vehicle charging points. The outdoor areas will be enhanced with native tree planting, wildflower meadows, and wildlife-friendly features such as bat and bird boxes.
Claire Hoskins, the council’s director of asset strategy, said: “This project will play a key role in supporting housing needs in Bridlington, and we’re delighted to work with partners to invest and expand our housing stock.”
Joe Booth, business development director at Hobson & Porter, said: “This development will provide much-needed town centre apartments for the local people of Bridlington. It’s great to see the investment being made by the authority and their funding partners to ensure that Bridlington has a diverse mix of council housing stock across the town. We look forward to seeing this one develop in this prominent location.”
With work now underway, this project marks a significant step towards providing high-quality, energy-efficient homes for the people of Bridlington.
