York’s Old Liquor Store to Host Two-Day Festival of Beer, Food and Music

The Old Liquor Store, the neighbourhood bistro set within the Grade II listed former Terry’s Chocolate Works, is staging a two-day festival of beer, cider, food and live entertainment on 29 and 30 August.

The event will showcase Yorkshire breweries, with six cask ales on tap, including three from Half Moon Brewery: Old Forge, Chinook and a Session IPA. Visitors can also sample beers from North Riding, Abbeydale and Dr Morton’s, alongside ciders such as Brew York’s Big Apple, Westons Old Rosie and Lilleys Mango. Spirits from the Hooting Owl Distillery and a selection of rums will also be available.

Street food from head chef Matt Leivers will be on offer, with dishes ranging from crispy salt and pepper squid to burrito spiced bean burgers and ramen bowls.

Ben Williams, owner of the Old Liquor Store, said:

“We’re fortunate to have some of the finest beer and spirit producers literally on our doorstep, so we’re delighted to spotlight homegrown independents and artisans that reflect the true spirit of Yorkshire. The festival is about more than just beer; it’s about celebrating creativity, craft, community and collaboration. We’re looking forward to inviting guests to sample some of the county’s best brews in our iconic restaurant.”

The festival will also feature live music from local performers, with York singer-songwriter Will Dreyfus among the acts confirmed. It runs from 4–11 pm on 29th August and 12–11 pm on 30th August. Entry is free, and tables can be reserved via the Old Liquor Store’s website.

The venue will add to its events calendar in September with a weekly speed quiz night hosted by Pete Martini, starting on 3 September, and an Oktoberfest celebration on 25th September featuring Bavarian food and music from the Yorkshire Oompah Band.
