Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) is calling on local businesses, schools, and communities to support its annual Yellow Yorkshire campaign.
Taking place from 6 to 12 July, the week-long initiative encourages people across the region to go yellow to raise vital funds. From workplace dress-down days and bakery sales to yellow window displays, participants are being asked to get creative to keep the service moving.
As an independent charity, YAA relies entirely on public donations to keep its helicopters flying and critical care teams responding to emergencies across the region. Already, 28 organisations have signed up, with landmarks like Meadowhall and the White Rose Shopping Centre confirmed to light up yellow throughout the week.
Other creative plans include pupils at Forest View School in Rawmarsh decorating lemons, and residents at Rowan Court Retirement Housing in Thirsk hosting their own “Yellow Yorkshire Olympics.”
Among those backing the campaign is Kelly Gorton, whose family was supported by the YAA following a serious motorcycle incident near Ingleton last year. Kelly and her children have since inspired several local schools and nurseries to register.
Kelly said: “After seeing first-hand the difference the Charity makes to families like ours, we wanted to do something to give back. You never know when you or someone you love might need Yorkshire Air Ambulance, so supporting them in any way you can is incredibly important.”
Tessa Klemz, Regional Fundraising Manager at YAA, added: “Yellow Yorkshire is all about bringing people together to celebrate and support a service that belongs to everyone. We’ve already seen some fantastic creativity from our supporters, and we’d love to see even more businesses, schools and communities join us.”
