Steeped in history and bursting with fascinating attractions and exhibits, Sheffield should be high on your list of places to visit when exploring Yorkshire. It is world-renowned for its history of steel production but in more recent years, the ‘Steel City’ has also become something of a foodie hotspot.
The birthplace of the UK’s craft beer revolution and home to five Michelin star restaurants, Sheffield has secured an enviable position on the culinary map. Boasting an eclectic array of independent eateries, Sheffield offers something for everyone when it comes to eating and drinking. With so many superb restaurants, cafes, gastro pubs and more to choose between, it can be difficult to decide where to eat when visiting.
For decades now, pizza has been a firm favourite amongst Brits for both restaurant dining and takeaways so to kick start our Sheffield foodie guide, we’re focusing on just that. Here are five of the best places to get pizza in Sheffield…
Where to get the best pizza in Sheffield
343 Glossop Rd, Broomhall, Sheffield S10 2HP
Napoli Centro is a cosy little pizza restaurant in Sheffield’s Broomhill area. Independently owned and a popular choice with students, this snug little eatery serves authentic Neopolitan pizzas and a range of traditional Italian sides. Made from slow-proofed dough and topped with ingredients sourced from Campania, pizzas at Napoli Centro are cooked in under 90 seconds. This short, sharp burst of extreme heat results in a light and airy crust with that slightly charred finish synonymous with Neopolitan style pizza.
The crust here is undeniably good but it’s the fresh ingredients that make it a winner! Worlds apart from your standard takeaway pizzas, theirs are topped with all the deliciously authentic meats, cheeses and vegetables you would expect to find at a traditional pizzeria in Italy, including Calabrian nduja, smoked provola cheese, ricotta, gorgonzola, kalamata olives, porchetta and prosciutto. We particularly like the sound of their ‘Sophia Loren’ which is topped with caramelised red onion, goat’s cheese, smoky pancetta and crushed walnuts (£10.50).

Go veggie with their La Contadina – a green pea base sauce topped with mozzarella, sautéed cabbage, capers, breadcrumbs and crushed pistachios or, for a meaty mouthful, opt for the Carni which is toed with San Marzano D.O.P tomatoes, mozzarella, pepperoni, nduja, fennel salami, ham and chillies.
If pizza isn’t your thing or you fancy something extra to enjoy alongside one, Proove also serve a fantastic range of small plates. Bruschetta, Arancini, Crochette and Caprese salad and many other small plate options are all available to tantalise your taste buds.
