Earlier this year, Dan Horsman from Skipton made a brief appearance on the Greg James show on Radio One. Having reworked the lyrics to the popular hit “Old Town Road” to give it a more Yorkshire feel, he was invited on air to perform it to thousands of entertained listeners.
Following his radio appearance, Dan was approached by Skipton Musical Theatre Co who were keen to work with him on a video for his catchy “Yorkshire Song”. The team at the local theatre company worked together to help Dan produce a video, with the aim of raising funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
Fast forward a few months and local lad, Dan Horsman is now a committed member of Skipton Musical Theatre Co and there’s simply no stopping him in his pursuit for musical success!
Again, working alongside the talented individuals at the Skipton music group, Dan has released his very own Christmas song called “Very Merry Christmas”. Available to download or stream on Google Play, Apple Music Store and Spotify, it’s a catchy little number which Dan hopes will reach the UK Christmas charts.
Dan said:
“I decided to write the song after joining Skipton Musical Theatre Company because they really inspired me to have more enthusiasm in life – something I’d struggled a lot with in the past! Joining them and having a new group of friends that felt almost like a family helped me to realise I had a lot more potential than I’d ever given myself credit for and so I decided to do something ridiculously ambitious and write a Christmas song!
Here’s a behind the scenes look into the making “A Very Merry Christmas”, produced by Dawn Feather…
Although a brilliantly fun video, there’s a serious message in Dan’s new song:
“The song itself is a typically upbeat Christmas song that I feel is reminiscent of some of the classics from the good old days. Everyone says every year ‘Why don’t they make them like they used to?’ This song is my answer to that question!
“It’s about everything that people love at Christmas, but I also wanted to include a little bit of my story in the song. Midway through it takes a turn in a slightly unexpected direction and addresses those who feel alone at Christmas. I’ve been there and it’s difficult to get out of, however, once you realise that those that love you will always be there for you no matter what, it gets easier!
“The lyrics talk about someone who feels like nobody is there for them. They feel alone and like there’s no way out, but eventually they come to realise that actually their friends are there just like they always have been. It then builds back up into a final big chorus where everyone is together enjoying themselves and celebrating Christmas!”
We know it’s still November and many of us aren’t yet feeling particularly festive, but Dan’s new Christmas song is bound to get you in the mood for the party season ahead. To make sure nobody forgets the words to his festive masterpiece, Dan has put together a lyric video. Press play, join in and let Skipton Musical Theatre Co and Dan Horsman’s delightfully jolly tune put you in the mood for a “Very Merry Christmas”…
Best of luck, guys!
