Skipton is undoubtedly a popular tourist town and has much to offer visitors. People flock to the historic market town by the coach load to explore the perfectly preserved Norman castle, stroll along the picturesque Leeds-Liverpool canal and peruse the award-winning market. However, as is the case in numerous other towns across the country, many of the independent retailers in Skipton are faced with a seemingly neverending battle to stay afloat.
Recently, we’ve been talking to some of the lovely independent business owners in Skipton and hearing all about the issues they are faced with which make running a business far less pleasurable than it should be. In these colder months, Skipton sees less visitors to the town and cannot rely on a large influx of tourists to keep businesses turning over. Unfortunately, the town has seen quite a few closures in the past 12 months and, as local residents, I’m sure you would agree that it would be a shame to see more.
We’ve offered our support to these local businesses and will be launching a campaign to help promote some of the great independents that make Skipton so unique. Our “We Love Skipton” campaign will launch at the end of this week, starting with a fabulous Facebook competition open only to residents of Skipton and continuing with an ongoing series of articles celebrating all that this wonderful Yorkshire market town has to offer.
Before we launch, we would be grateful if residents of Skipton would help us out by completing the survey below. Please, if you could, take a few minutes to let us and your local business owners know a little more about how you use independent businesses in Skipton. Help us help our independents!
Also, don’t forget to keep an eye on our Facebook page for our upcoming competition. The “We Love Skipton” competition prize includes a great selection of items from businesses across Skipton, including gift vouchers and tasty treats!
