The Yorkshire Dales offer some of the best and most scenic walks in the UK so a break here is absolutely perfect for those with a passion for the outdoors. If you’re planning a visit soon, no doubt there are various parts of this stunning national park that you will want to explore, but where should you make your base during your visit?

Bed and Breakfasts are a popular accommodation choice for visitors to the Yorkshire Dales. There’s no shortage of these, offering comfortable rooms, great breakfasts and superb service. Park Bottom, Littondale

Owned and run by Phillip and Jane Sheard, Park Bottom B&B is located in the quiet hamlet of Litton. Known as the “Secret Dale”, the area of Littondale offers a peaceful stay and a charming atmosphere. The hamlet itself is remarkably pretty and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, just waiting to be explored. Ideal for walkers, Park Pottom at Litton provides the perfect base for those wishing to get their boots muddy and enjoy scenic walks across this stunning part of the Yorkshire Dales. They even provide secure bike storage and a utility room for drying off wet gear at the end of the day.

All the guest rooms at Park Bottom are ensuite and you can begin your day with a scrumptious Full English or other homemade breakfast, before setting off on one of the many nearby walking routes. Phillip and Jane will happily provide packed lunches for you and your fellow guests at £6 each should you require them. In these, you’ll get plenty of goodies to keep your energy levels up during those strenous treks!

Cononley Hall

Cononley Hall Bed & Breakfast, Main St,Cononley Nr. Skipton BD20 8LJ

Cononley Hall is a Grade II listed Georgian house in the quiet village of Cononley, near Skipton. Set in the scenic Aire Valley, it’s ideally located for those wishing to discover the natural beauty of the Yorkshire Dales and visit Bronte country with all its fascinating attractions.

The level of service here is excellent, and this has been recognised with a five-star rating from Visit England. Upon arrival, all guests are greeted with tea, coffee, homemade cake and a smile before they settle down to enjoy their comfortable and spacious guest rooms. All the rooms are tastefully decorated and include TV, WIFI, hairdryer, central heating and super soft bath robes. The property also boasts a beautiful landscape garden in which guests are free to relax and enjoy the good old Yorkshire air!

The food here is always excellent! The star of the show is certainly their traditional full Yorkshire breakfast which includes locally sourced bacon and sausages plus eggs from their own hens. There are plenty of lighter options too such as granolas, compotes and fresh fruits and the owners are always happy to provide something different for those with special dietary requirements.

The Bailey

Located in the centre of the historic market town of Skipton, The Bailey is a great option for those wanting to be close to excellent amenities, interesting attractions and a superb array of independent shops. Known as “The Gateway to The Dales”, this popular town is also just a stone’s throw away from some of the most beautiful countryside in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Bailey, is a boutique B&B with a separate holiday cottage and a delightful shepherd’s hut. It’s just a 2 minute walk away from the town’s award-winning High Street and market and just a few yards from Skipton Castle. The Bailey B&B has two beautifully decorated luxury guest rooms – a Kingsize En-Suite and a Family Room with private bathroom. The owners have done their utmost to ensure maximum comfort so expect top quality Yorkshire mattresses, Egyptian cotton sheets and super cuddly dressing gowns. Loxely House

Loxley House is a relaxed and friendly bed and breakfast in the market town of Hawes – home of The Wensleydale Creamery. Set in a quiet location in this picturesque Yorkshire Dales town, it offers fell views of Upper Wensleydale and there are many wonderful walking routes close by. Close enough to the town for easy access to shops, pubs and eateries, yet far enough out to offer a tranquil break, Loxely House offers it all.

All of the rooms at Loxely House have been individually designed and each have direct external access so you can come and go as you please. Inside your room you’ll find a comfortable bed, a relaxing armchair, good quality linen and towels, a flat screen TV, hairdryer, WIFI and a selection of luxury toiletries. The rooms here are all really nicely decorated and many offer superb views of Wensleydale.

Breakfast at Loxley House is a relaxed and informal affair. Served in their spacious dining room with its patio doors and spectacular views, their home-cooked breakfasts are a great way to begin your day in the Dales.

Grassfield Hall

Low Wath Road, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate, HG3 5H

Standing proud on the edge of Pateley Bridge and surrounded by some truly stunning scenery, is Grassfield Hall. Built in 1819 by an entrepreneur who leased and managed the area’s lead mines, the house has had many residents over the years and was once part of the Beweley Estate. Bought in 2010 by husband and wife team, Lisa and Alex, it is now a thriving bed & breakfast frequented by visitors to the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The house itself is pretty impressive with its elegant architecture and idyllic location, however, the interior of Grassfield Hall is just as enviable. Each of the 8 rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished, to offer guests a luxurious Yorkshire retreat. The Garden Room with its Venetian four-poster bed and patio doors leading out onto the garden is particualy elegant and perfect for a romantic getaway.

Breakfast at Grassfield Hall is a local affair to say the least! They source excellent produce from award-winning local suppliers so expect a tasty menu of traditional cooked breakfasts, freshly baked breads, homemade cakes, delicious preserves and honey straight from a local beekeeper. Their listed prices include breakfast but the team at Grassfield Hall are happy to offer a room-only rate if you request one.

River House

Malham, Near Skipton, North Yorkshire BD23 4DA

No visit to the Yorkshire Dales would be complete without a trip to Malham and Malham Cove. Blessed with dramatic limestone scenery, the area offers many wonderful scenic walks. It really is one of the most beautful places in the Dales.

River House Bed & Breakfast is a friendly B&B run by the Roe family. Although parts of River House date back to the 17th century, much of what you see today is Victorian in origin and the house has been operating as a guest house since the 1950s. The Roe family have won numerous awards over the years including the 4-star silver award and Breakfast Award from the AA, so it’s safe to say this a great accommodation choice!

There are 8 bedrooms at River House, 2 of which are en-suite.The decor throughout is elegant and perfectly complements the period in which much of the property was built. The facilities here are pretty good – they have a licensed bar with a wood burning stove, a large dining room and a small snug in which you’ll find plenty of reading material and board games to enjoy on those colder Yorkshire nights. The breakfast menu is also very good with choices such as Grilled Kippers, Eggs Benedict and vegetarian dishes available alongside their home-cooked full english. Packed lunches can be provided on request.
