5 Independent Shops in Knaresborough You Need to Visit

Part of the borough of Harrogate and perched on the cliffs above the River Nidd, the historic market town of Knaresborough is one of the most picturesque towns in North Yorkshire. With its famous railway viaduct, Medieval cobbled streets and dramatic castle ruins, the town has plenty to offer visitors. Seeped in history and bursting with character, Knaresborough is also home to Mother Shipton’s Caves – one of North Yorkshire’s most popular tourist attractions.

Did you know that Knaresborough is also a great place to indulge in a spot of retail therapy? Like many Yorkshire market towns, it boasts lots of independent shops, run by hard-working locals. At The Yorkshire Press, we believe it is these businesses that make a town centre unique. How boring would our High Streets be if they were all the same?

Finding quirky items, handmade gifts, locally made treats or “one off” designs is always a pleasurable part of shopping and, generally, not one normally associated with big name brands and top retailers. Knaresborough has no shortage of shops stocked with interesting and diverse product ranges, often sourced from local makers or producers. So, before you plan your next visit, be sure to check out some of Knaresborough’s independent shops. To make things easier for you, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourites…

The Crystal Buddha

The Crystal Buddha on Knaresborough High Street is a treasure trove of ethically sourced holistic crystals and other items designed to lift one’s mood and spirit. They’ve been trading since 2012 and have built up an excellent reputation locally.

They specialise in those more difficult to find crystals and have recently started working with master carvers to create stunning designs from a selection of beautiful gemstones and crystals.

Here, you’ll find a whole world of spiritual and holistic goods like incense, singing bowls and oracle cards in addition to an excellent selection of inspirational books and some truly gorgeous sterling silver jewellery.

Country 2 Western

Unleash your inner Cowboy or Cowgirl with a visit to one of Knaresborough’s most unique shops. Filled to the rafters with Country and Western clothing like Cowboy boots, hats, belts and western shirts, it’s perfect for those with a love of the Wild West.

Unsurprisingly, Country 2 Western supply numerous musicians and production companies with their great products. You won’t find another shop like this locally so it’s well worth popping in for a browse or to pick up a few unique gifts for your very own Buffalo Bill or Annie Oakley. Yeehaw!

Knitting Pretty

Knitting is a pretty big deal right now and has been since its return as a fashionable pastime for people of all ages. Whether you’re a novice or a professional, Knitting Pretty in Knaresborough stocks everything you could possibly need for your next woolly creation.

They have a huge selection of yarn available and the bright colours of their vast assortment make the shop incredibly inviting. As well as stocking supplies, they also host a number of regular events including a charitable knitting morning where local knitters join together to make clothing for the Special Care Baby Unit at Harrogate Hospital.

Little Darlings

Little Darlings is a great little independent gift and toy shop on Knaresborough High Street. Whether you’re looking for that perfect Birthday or Christmas gift or whether your little one deserves a special reward, you’re bound to find something to ignite their imagination at Little Darlings.

They stock a superb selection of toys and gifts for children of all ages with their Peter Rabbit, Peppa Pig, Hotwheels and Aurora being some of their most popular ranges. Litle Darlings also have an excellent range of offical lego sets and operate a Lego Swap Shop so your little builders can get their hands on the latest mini figures.

Dragonfly

We love discovering a new gift shop and this one in Knaresborough is fabulous! They’re got a loyal customer base in the town and they’ve won numerous awards over the years.

It’s pretty much a one-stop shop for gifting as, in addition to their lovely gifts, they also stock beautiful greetings cards and helium balloons which start at just £2.99. Their soft toys are incredibly popular as they stock collectible ranges like Beanie Babies, Beanie Boo, My Little Pony and Tatty Teddy. You’ll also find some lovely gifts for grown-ups like scarves, jewellery, handbags, candles, mugs and even confectionery for those with a sweet tooth! A great little shop with super friendly staff that is well worth a browse if you have a special occasion coming up.

As with all our articles of this nature, we’ll be adding to this list over time. If you would like to recommend a business for inclusion or want to find out more about our affordable advertising packages, please email Alexis@theyorkshirepress.co.uk
