What’s On in Yorkshire for Halloween 2019

We’re officially in October and Halloween is just a few short weeks away. If your child is anything like mine, then they’ll already be getting excited about spooky events, scary costumes, petrifying parties and perhaps, Trick or Treating with friends.

As always, there are lots of fun-packed events taking place in Yorkshire this Halloween, offering eerie entertainment and frightfully good things to do with the kids. In this article, you’ll find details of some of the best family-friendly Halloween events coming up this month. With a few weeks still left before they take place, you’ve got plenty of time to plan ahead and choose those all-important costumes.

Here, are some of the best Halloween events in Yorkshire for 2019…

The Halloween Adventure at Stockeld Park

Halloween at Stockeld Park

Stockeld Park is a big hit with kids at all times of the year, but their hosted events offer something a little bit more special to an already excellent day out. This year, the leading family attraction will be switching on their spectacular Winter light display in time for Halloween. After dusk, their enchanted forest will be transformed with more than 100,000 lights, offering a magical Woodland experience for the whole family.

During the October half term, Stockeld Park are putting on a number of Halloween adventures for kids including Ghouls in the Maze. Brave young witches and wizards are invited to explore the maze at Stockeld Park, in which various ghosts and ghouls will be hiding amongst the various twists and turns. For the little ones, there’ll be a spooky Halloween trail through the forest and in the afternoons, the eerily entertaining Monster Mash Panto, will take place in the Atrium. Book a Forest and Maze ticket before 26th October to recieve a free pumpkin that you can carve with the Stockeld Park Rangers during your visit.

Halloween at Ponderosa Zoo

Halloween at Ponderosa zoo

You’re in for a treat at Ponderosa Zoo this Halloween. Dress in your favourite Halloween costume and experience a thrilling schedule of Halloween themed activities. Start your spooky adventure by picking your own pumpkin from their pumpkin patch. Draw a design onto it and then, for a small charge, the Ponderosa team will carve it so it’s ready for you to take home and display.

Once you’ve transformed your pumpkin into a spooky lantern, follow the extinct animal trail around the zoo, and if you manage to spot them all, you’ll receive a treat from the staff. Children are encouraged to dress in spooky costumes for a chance to win a an Otter Feeding experience or a Family Pass.

There’s lots to see and do at this great Yorkshire attraction, including zip wires, play areas and all kinds of wonderful animals. A great day out for the whole family!

Spooky Time at Humble Bee Farm

Halloween at Humble Bee Farm

The award-winning site based near Scarborough, includes glamping, camping and holiday cottages and is surrounded by a working arable and stock farm in the Yorkshire Wolds. The events here are always great and their itineray for this Halloween sounds superb.

Their annual Halloween Spooktacular Humble Bee Party with Esmeralda the Witch will place on Saturday 19thOctober 5pm to 7.30pm.

The brand new Pumpkin Patch and Spooktacular Trail event will take place daily on 26th, 28th, 29th and 31st October with hourly sessions from 12noon to 4pm. Then on 27th and 30th October, visitors can enjoy the Pumpkin Patch and a special visit from Esmeralda the Witch.

Julia Waters, co-owner of Humble Bee Farm said: “Our popular Nature Trail will be transformed into a Spooktacular Trail with a selection of Halloween themed surprises all the way around the route. Anyone taking part will enjoy this fun and interactive experience.”

Grimms’ Scary Tales at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, is home to some of the most amazing animals on the planet, including the only Polar Bears in the UK. It’s one of the best family attractions in Yorkshire and this year, they have wonderful things planned for Halloween.

Inspired by the Brothers’ Grimm, their catalogue of activites will include live shows, scary characters, creepy crafts, face-painting and much more. Whilst experiencing their excellent walk-round safari, you’ll meet a whole host of colourful fairytale characters such as Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood and The Big Bad Wolf.

Halloween at Mother Shipton’s Cave

Mother Shipton’s Cave tells the story of the famous prophetess and is situated next to England’s oldest visitor attraction – the Petrifying Well. Between 26th October and 3rd November 2019, this popular visitor attraction at Knaresborough, will be transfomed to offer ghoulish fun for the whole family.

Enjoy a themed Activity Trail through the haunted woodland, where you will encounter a number of witches casting spells around their cauldrons. Once you have bravely completed the trail, you are invited to attend a spooky science class or participate in their costume competition at 2pm. In addition to the Halloween events taking place, you can enjoy riverside picnics, a children’s play area and a fascinating museum.

Spooktacular Science at Thackray Medical Museum

Thackray Medical Museum is a museum of the history of medicine, adjacent to St James’ University Hospital. A popular and interesting attraction, it is home to some fascinating collections. This Halloween, they are hosting a one-day event which promises to be both fun and educational.

The team from Mad Science will be putting on a Spooktacular Science workshop for the kids. After they’ve watched the show, they can join the Thackray team in making some creepy crafts. The science workshop will take place 4 times throughout the day of October 31st and will be suitable for children aged between 3 and 12 years old.

Pumpkin Patch and School of Wizardry at Cannon Hall Farm

The fantastic Cannon Hall Farm near Barnsley will yet again be hosting a wonderful, fun-packed Halloween event this year. With animal encounters, an adventure playground, an indoor play area and a farm shop stocked with all kinds of delicious Yorkshire produce, it’s already a great place to enjoy a family day out.

Their popular Pumpkin Patch is returning this year, offering big kids and little kids the chance to pick their own pumpkin and create a spooky lantern with the help of expert carvers. Their annual Wizardy School will also be making a comeback, so young witches and wizards will have the chance to compete in challenges and “graduate” to earn a spooky treat from Professor Monocle. There will also be regular performances from Barry the wannabe wizard, offering mums and dads the chance to sit back and relax whilst the little ones enjoy a 15-minute show.

Halloween at Bradford Industrial Museum

Another Yorkshire museum hosting fun activity events for kids this Halloween, is Bradford Industrial Museum. Between 26th Octiber and 3rd November, they’re invoted to take part in a Halloween trail around the museum. As it’s a free entry museum, there is no charge for this. A completely free day out for the whole family!

On Wednesday 30th October, they’ll also be hosting a family craft activity drop-in session. There will be a range of staff-led and self-led crafting activties available, free of charge. Get creative and make your very own petrifying puppets and paper models.
