Yorkshire Print Firm instantprint Invests £260,000 in New Robotic Fleet

Yorkshire-based online printer instantprint has announced a £260,000 investment in factory automation, introducing three advanced autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) from Moviĝo Robotics. The new robotic fleet has been brought in to remove repetitive manual tasks and streamline production across the company’s facility.

The rollout includes two Ŝharko5 units and one larger Ŝharko10, all equipped to navigate a live print environment using 3D cameras, QR-code scanning and reflector-based navigation. The robots automatically collect and transport bins, replenish pallet stock, register pick-up points and manage returns, removing the need for manual pallet truck movement and freeing staff to focus on higher-value production work.

Using intelligent task logic and high-resolution cameras, the AMRs identify when areas need clearing, whether bins are full or when pallet levels drop. The system can also redistribute loads when overflow zones reach capacity to keep production flowing smoothly. As part of the installation, instantprint has upgraded all pallets to long-lasting plastic models to boost durability and reduce waste.

Initially piloted within business card production, the AMR system has now been expanded to other busy areas of the factory, with instantprint planning to double the fleet in the coming months. The upgrade follows a lengthy internal reorganisation to optimise space and operational efficiency.

“This investment in MoviĜo AMRs removes the repetitive bottlenecks that slow teams down,” said Jon Constantine-Smith, Head of instantprint. “It frees our operators to focus on the skilled parts of production, speeding up output, reducing wait times, and ultimately delivering an even faster turnaround for our customers.”

The project forms one of the company’s largest automation initiatives this year and is part of a wider roadmap focusing on high-traffic, low-value processes on the factory floor. It also supports instantprint’s sustainability commitments, with the introduction of plastic pallets helping reduce breakage and contributing to the firm’s target of achieving carbon net-zero operations by 2035.
