A York business owner is launching the city’s first dog treat cupboard to mark one year in trade. Dawn Taylor, who runs Purepups Co, will open the new self-service point on Friday 20th March at 48 Nunthorpe Crescent, located just off the popular Bishy Road. Taylor also runs a reclaimed timber business called Purepallets. She started Purepups Co on the Shambles Market but admitted that managing two businesses at the market has been really hard. Instead of giving up, she decided to try a new way of reaching customers by making healthy snacks more accessible to the local community.
“We started Purepups Co a year ago on York Market, selling 100% natural dog treats, and the response from local dog owners has been amazing. Launching York’s first dog treat cupboard felt like the perfect way for people to grab healthy treats for their dogs whenever they’re out walking,” Taylor said.
The cupboard will be stocked every week with a range of natural treats. These offer a healthier alternative to heavily processed snacks and support dental health, digestion, and mental stimulation. The cupboard opens from Friday to Sunday between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm. Customers can simply stop by, choose their items, and pay either by card or by putting cash in the honesty box. Taylor is passionate about educating dog owners and will share updates on new stock and health benefits through social media. If demand grows, the business hopes to expand the number of opening days. As a small family-run business, Purepups Co is encouraging York residents and dog lovers to spread the word.
“We’d love the “pawrents” and their Pups of York to come and check it out, tell their friends, and support us,” Taylor commented.
