Sticks n Sushi To Open Huge New Leeds City Centre Site

The Danish restaurant group Sticks n Sushi has announced it will join the Vicar Lane regeneration scheme in Leeds with the opening of its 18th UK location early next year.

The new restaurant will transform an 8,839 square foot Grade II listed building at 80 Vicar Lane into a major city centre dining destination.

Across three floors, the site will feature an expansive 220-cover dining room, a 30-cover outdoor terrace, and a dedicated upstairs bar with private hire space. This opening represents a significant investment in the Vicar Lane regeneration scheme, blending historic Leeds architecture with a modern fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design.

Designed by award-winning architects, the interiors are set to mix Japanese architectural principles with Nordic aesthetics. The expansion is also expected to provide a boost to the local economy by creating 60 new jobs.

Andreas Karlsson, Sticks n Sushi Group CEO, said: “We are delighted to be joining this development; Vicar Lane is one of the most vibrant retail and leisure hubs in Leeds and aligns perfectly with our dining experience from lunch through to late evening. We look forward to building a new team and becoming part of the Leeds community.”

The menu will feature a mix of sushi, sashimi, and grilled sticks, including signature dishes like miso-glazed black cod and wagyu tartare handrolls. The drinks selection will offer sake, Japanese teas, and the brand’s own yuzu pale ale.

Charles Newman, Asset Management Director at Town Centre Securities PLC, said: “The arrival of Sticks n Sushi will further elevate the premium retail and leisure brands represented at Vicar Lane and across the wider area. Sticks n Sushi’s international reputation and high-quality offer align with our long-term strategy of curating a best-in-class asset that enhances the appeal of the area as a key city centre destination.”

Founded in Copenhagen by brothers Jens and Kim Rahbek alongside Thor Anderson, the group now operates sites in Denmark, Berlin, and the UK. The Leeds opening will mark the 33rd restaurant for the company globally.
