A popular Yorkshire Dales retreat has reported a major rise in bookings for no-fuss outdoor stays as British holidaymakers increasingly swap stressful travel plans for simpler, nature-led breaks.
Catgill Farm Camping & Glamping, an award-winning site located near Bolton Abbey, is seeing a significant surge in demand for its luxury bell tents this summer. Owners Cat and Oli Barker describe the growing trend as “camping for people who don’t really camp,” noting a distinct shift toward wellness, flexibility, and holidays that require zero setup or hassle.
Set directly against the backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the site’s bell tents are designed to capture the nostalgic elements of classic camping, like fire pits, outdoor cooking, and stargazing, while retaining the modern luxuries that premium travellers expect. Each setup comes equipped with proper beds, electricity, high-speed WiFi, semi-private toilet and shower pods, and private hot tubs.
According to industry data, the broader UK travel market is seeing sustained demand for slower-paced, nature-centric getaways. Rather than coordinating complicated overseas itineraries, families, couples, and first-time campers are prioritising low-pressure trips focused on fresh air and switching off.
To complement the relaxed atmosphere, the dog-friendly site features direct walking routes from the campsite doorstep, communal outdoor dining spaces, and an on-site hub, Cat’s Kitchen, which serves fresh, wood-fired pizzas to guests during peak holiday periods.
“People still want the feeling of being outdoors, sitting around a fire pit, waking up to birdsong and spending time together properly. But a lot of guests don’t necessarily want the hassle of pitching a tent or sleeping on the floor anymore. Bell tent glamping gives them that experience in a much easier, more comfortable way.”
