The National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield is inviting families to enjoy a holiday-themed summer of activities running from Saturday 18th July until Sunday 30th August. Open Wednesday to Sunday, the museum’s seasonal schedule has been designed to provide an affordable, high-energy day out. To support local families, the museum is running a £10-per-car parking offer all summer, which includes unlimited Paddy Train rides for everyone in the vehicle.
The lineup features hands-on science shows, free daily crafting in the Makers’ Shed, and a chance to meet the museum’s resident ponies and shire yearling, Aladdin. Visitors can also tackle a Minecraft-themed escape room, browse the Caphouse Lego Brickshow on Sunday 23rd August, or catch a live outdoor performance of The Wind in the Willows on Saturday 15th August. For Yorkshire Day on Saturday 1st August, the museum will host a classic miners’ gala celebration complete with live music, circus training, and sports.
Lynn Dunning, CEO of the National Coal Mining Museum, commented: “We’ve created a special programme packed with family shows, creative workshops, outdoor fun, trails, performances and opportunities to discover the incredible stories of coal mining. Families can experience a great value day out, with our £10 per car summer offer including unlimited Paddy Train rides for everyone, weather permitting.”
