Amazon Doncaster Employees Pack 800 Literacy Kits for Local Families in Need

Employees at Amazon’s Doncaster iPort fulfilment centre have come together to support families across the region by packing 800 literacy kits for The Junction Multibank, a charity initiative co-founded by Amazon and former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The kits, filled with essential items including a Roald Dahl book and a bookmark, were assembled by 60 volunteers as part of Amazon’s Global Month of Volunteering. The initiative encourages employees to give back to their communities through hands-on support.

The Junction Multibank, launched in 2024, collects and distributes surplus essentials such as clothing, bedding, school uniforms and hygiene products to families facing hardship. The goods are provided by businesses, including Amazon and are distributed through charity networks led by The Junction Foundation.

Angelika Piliszko, one of the Doncaster volunteers, said: “Being able to support The Junction Multibank alongside my colleagues this month was a special experience. It’s great to have that dedicated time to give to others and do that alongside my peers.”

Doncaster’s event was one of several held across the UK throughout May, with centres in Stockton-on-Tees and Gateshead also joining the effort. The national campaign aimed to donate over 1,400 essential kits to support people in need.

Simon Nott from The Junction Multibank said: “Amazon’s continued support means we can increase the reach of who we provide for, giving individuals, families and other charities exactly what they need, when they need it. We’re very pleased with the result. Thank you, team!”

The Multibank initiative has so far donated more than 7 million surplus items to over 600,000 families across the UK. It’s one part of Amazon’s wider community work, which includes education, food distribution, and partnerships with organisations like Comic Relief.
