Yorkshire-based luxury hamper and fine food specialists Cartwright & Butler has announced a new, monthly additional cost of living increase for each of its 50 employees equating to £1800 a year.
Paid monthly from June 2022 the increase is a permanent boost to its employees’ wages and is over and above the annual pay increase.
The ‘cost of living’ pay rise from the company based in Gilberdyke Brough, East Yorkshire, is in response to the well-publicised pressures on home finances due to rising inflation and soaring energy bills.
“Our employees are the best asset that Cartwright & Butler has. Without their passion and enthusiasm, the business wouldn’t be where it is today.
“Like everyone we have seen the increase in fuel and energy prices and recognise the pressure this places on our colleagues and wanted to do something to help.
“We hope this regular monthly payment can take some of the pressure off the families of absolutely everyone that works for us,” said Tony Arnett, managing director, Cartwright & Butler.
Doing the right thing is central to how Cartwright & Butler operates. The business also announced today that as part of its carbon neutral journey, it would be offsetting the impact that its colleagues have on the environment, both at home and in the workplace.
Partnering with Ecologi, 760 trees a month will now be planted reducing CO2e by over 52 tonnes each month.
In addition, Cartwright & Butler also recently announced that it had joined forces with social impact company and anti-food waste app Too Good To Go as part of its ongoing sustainability journey to #BeGoodDoGood.
Sadly, more than a third of food is being wasted in the UK. To help fight this, Cartwright & Butler has embarked on an initiative to reduce its own surplus stock and prevent it from going to waste. Too Good To Go connects businesses that have surplus food with consumers, so this food can be enjoyed instead of going to waste.
Consumers simply download the free Too Good To Go app and search for Cartwright & Butler.
They can then purchase a ‘Magic Bag’ containing a variety of sweet and savoury treats – worth three times what the customer pays based on its original retail value.
In partnership with Too Good To Go, Cartwright & Butler calculates that each Magic Bag can save 6.25kg of CO2e – the same as would be produced by charging 442 smartphones.
