Thousands of pupils across North Yorkshire have collected their GCSE and equivalent results today, with several secondary schools across the county recording landmark achievements.
Students at Bedale High School marked a third consecutive year of academic improvement, delivering the school’s second successive record performance. Three-quarters of the cohort achieved a grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, while the school’s overall Attainment 8 score rose to a record 47.8. The academic progress follows a recent investment of over £750,000 into the school’s learning facilities and curriculum.
“Today belongs to our students. Behind every one of these results is a young person who has worked incredibly hard, shown resilience and earned the right to feel immensely proud. Every qualification gives a student greater choice over what they do next.”
— Chris Stokes, Headteacher at Bedale High School

At Ripon Grammar School, almost one in five grades awarded was the highest possible mark, grade 9. Out of 128 students, 58.4% of all grades fell between 7 and 9, with four individual students each achieving 10 grade 9s. Notable performers included national fell running champion Angus Millar, who achieved 10 grade 9s and two grade 7s.
Boroughbridge High School also reported widespread student success across both GCSE and BTEC qualifications, with high achievers including Phoebe Addison, who earned ten GCSEs including three grade 9s before heading to York College for A-Levels.
“Today is a special day for thousands of young people across the county, and I would like to offer my congratulations to every student receiving their results. These results represent years of dedication, determination, and resilience. Whether your results are exactly what you hoped for or they lead you in a different direction, today marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.”
— Cllr Annabel Wilkinson, Executive Member for Education, Learning and Skills at North Yorkshire Council

Nationally, the overall UK GCSE pass rate at grade 4 or above stood at 67.3%, while the proportion of students achieving top marks at grade 7 or above rose slightly to 22%. Local education officials encourage any students needing advice on their next steps to consult their school careers advisers.
