Planet Sport Group Strengthens Social Media Presence with Grassroot Goals Acquisition

Leeds-based Planet Sport Group has expanded its social media reach with the acquisition of popular football highlights channel Grassroot Goals, marking a significant step in the company’s video-led growth strategy.

Known as the “home of amateur football,” Grassroot Goals has built a loyal following of more than 700,000 across TikTok, Instagram, X and Facebook. The channel specialises in short-form clips capturing the passion and unpredictability of Sunday league football and grassroots matches across the UK. Its user-generated content is created by fans, for fans – a model that fits closely with Planet Sport Group’s own approach to sports media.

Grassroot Goals will continue to operate under its existing brand while benefiting from Planet Sport Group’s scale and infrastructure. The acquisition gives Planet Sport access to a highly engaged audience and extends its appeal to brand partners aiming to connect with football fans from all walks of life.

The acquisition is part of Planet Sport Group’s wider plan to grow its video-led output across football, rugby union, rugby league, golf, tennis, horse racing and F1. It follows the group’s purchase of the F1 Word YouTube channel last year.

Grassroot Goals already works with well-known consumer brands including Carling and Captain Morgan, and this move is expected to further strengthen its commercial offering.
