Explore the Charming City of York

Yorkshire has seven charming cities, but we couldn’t generate a list of Yorkshire activities without mentioning the incredible city of York. York is the oldest city in Yorkshire and holds rich history not to be missed out on.

York is an ancient city, dating back to Roman times built over 2000 years ago. It isn’t surprising that it’s known as Europe’s most haunted city, providing lots of ghost tours, haunted pubs and even the York Ghost Merchants, which sells one thing and one thing only – ghosts! Who needs a partner when you can have a ghost, right?

With haunted cobbled alleys, Victorian tearooms, museums, countless pubs, cute trinket shops and the famous medieval shambles, what more could you want from a city post-divorce?

As we’ve said, there are a total of seven cities in Yorkshire, so once you’ve explored all of these activities on the list, perhaps discover the other six cities of Yorkshire, including Bradford, Kingston Upon Hull, Leeds, Ripon, Sheffield and Wakefield.

Discover Yorkshire on Horseback

Going through a divorce is tough, but keeping an open mind and indulging in a new hobby widens your horizons and can really help with your mental health. Yorkshire is known for its beautiful landscapes, so have you considered seeing it on horseback?

There are countless riding centres across Yorkshire for you to choose from. Don’t worry, you won’t be thrown in at the deep end – most riding centres offer beginner friendly treks across the countryside.

Watch yourself become more confident with a new hobby whilst getting outside and away from busy thoughts. If you find you really love it, why not enquire at the riding centres to make it a full-time hobby?

Discover Yorkshire by Foot

If horseback riding isn’t for you, but you’re interested in taking up a new pastime and want to discover more of the remarkable countryside that Yorkshire has to offer, you could take up outdoor walking as your new post-divorce activity.

Yorkshire is full of a variety of walks. From coastal paths to moors, there is so much to see and discover. Perfect for either a solo adventure or with families and friends, there are plenty of child friendly trails. Some of our favourite Yorkshire walks include:

  • Malham Cove, Gordale Scar & Janet’s Foss Walk – North Yorkshire
  • Ribblehead Viaduct Walk – North Yorkshire
  • Aysgarth Falls Waterfall Walk – North Yorkshire
  • Langsett Reservoir – South Yorkshire

Watch a Gig

Marriage can be a wonderful thing, but it can also reduce a person’s independent thoughts and wants. Perhaps you didn’t go watch that band that one time because they didn’t want to?

Now that you no longer have to consider another person’s time or plans, you’re free to enjoy spending time how you want to. What better way to celebrate or cope with a divorce than watching your favourite artist or band live? A chance to really ‘let your hair down’ and sing your heart out to tunes they never liked!

Allgigs.co.uk can show you what’s going on in Yorkshire over the next couple of months, as well as where you can purchase tickets.

Do a Cookery Class

Did you rely on your ex-partner to cook? Maybe you want to learn some new recipes to impress future dinner guests? Why not try one of Yorkshires cookery classes out.

Good food and good company can help heal a lot. Perhaps you only make simple dishes or eat ready meals, so picking up new cooking skills will benefit you for the rest of your life.

That’s why one of our recommendations when it comes to finding an activity to do post-divorce is learning to cook. What better way to do so than a Yorkshire cookery class, home of the Yorkshire pudding.

There are plenty of fantastic cookery classes that’ll make you a pro in no time, and you might even find that you’ll develop a newfound love of cooking.

Post-Divorce Doesn’t Have to be Lonely or Boring

Make the conscious effort to replace feelings of loss with excitement and new adventure. Give yourself time to process an emotionally draining time, but make an effort to try new things and participate in activities, either solo or with a friend or family member to help you cope with your divorce.
