Brunch lovers in Leeds have another new spot to get excited about as the UK café favourite Federal has officially opened its doors. Hundreds of diners lined up from 7am on opening day, and to celebrate, Federal is giving away free coffees to the first 1,000 visitors this weekend, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st December, from 8am.
Those joining the queue can also enjoy prize giveaways and pick up limited-edition Leeds merchandise created especially for opening week. A playful new cocktail, the Leeds Latte Martini, will also make its debut, celebrating the city’s lively cocktail scene.
Founded in Manchester in 2014, Federal takes inspiration from Kiwi and Aussie neighbourhood cafés. Over the years, it has earned a global following for its top-quality coffee, delicious brunch dishes, and welcoming atmosphere. Its canned iced Matcha has become a TikTok sensation, and loyal fans across the country regularly queue up for a taste.
Owner Claudio Ribeiro has grown Federal from its first Manchester café to three locations in the city. The brand’s focus on quality means everything is made fresh on site, from its famous Fed sauce to its signature dishes. Leeds diners can expect classics like French toast, steak and eggs, and halloumi with mushrooms, alongside rotating specials. Drinks include expertly crafted coffee, teas, fresh juices, wine, beer, and cocktails.

“We’re overwhelmed by the response from the people of Yorkshire and excited to be part of the amazing hospitality scene. There’s been a real buzz around Federal coming to Leeds, and it’s been amazing to see the site come to life and welcome everyone in for a taste.”
Federal prides itself on its signature ‘Sunny Side Service’, making sure every guest leaves feeling a little brighter than when they arrived. Each café has its own unique design but keeps the warm, neighbourhood vibe that has become its hallmark.
In a recent study by Betway, Federal was named the UK’s most popular independent café and ranked fourth in the world, with over 1.1 million TikTok views and nearly 400,000 annual Google searches, cementing its place on the global brunch scene.
