Asda is offering free cold drinks to shoppers on Thursday 13th August to help customers stay cool during the current spell of warm weather.
Shoppers visiting in-store Asda cafés can claim a complimentary Iced Tea or Cloudy Lemonade for one day only, while stocks last. The initiative coincides with new research commissioned by the supermarket chain exploring how Brits cope with climbing temperatures.
According to the survey, 74% of adults admit to spending longer in supermarkets or shops during hot weather specifically for the cooler indoor environment, with people staying an extra 22 minutes on average. Additionally, 9% of parents reported taking their children into air-conditioned stores to escape the heat or prevent tantrums during the school summer holidays.
The research also highlighted unconventional cooling methods used across the nation, including working next to paddling pools (7%), wearing wet tea towels over shoulders (17%), and creating makeshift ice baths in wheelie bins (2%). Uncomfortable sleep emerged as the top heatwave complaint for 66% of respondents, followed by overly hot homes (35%) and difficulty concentrating (26%).
An Asda spokesperson said: “Brits are nothing if not resourceful, and when a heatwave arrives everyone seems to have their own tried-and-tested way of cooling down. That’s why we’re treating shoppers to a free Iced Tea or Cloudy Lemonade from our in-store cafés while the heat is on, so there’s always a simple way to escape it.”
The one-day giveaway is available at participating Asda cafés nationwide on Thursday 13th August 2026.
