Renowned Indian restaurant group Dishoom opens its long-awaited Leeds venue today (Monday, 3rd August 2026), bringing the spirit of Bombay’s historic Irani cafés to Vicar Lane.
Situated between the Victoria Gate and Victoria Quarter shopping districts at 68-78 Vicar Lane, Dishoom is offering guests 50% off food during an initial soft-opening period ahead of its official launch on 14th August 2026.
The interior design draws inspiration from mid-century Bombay and historic local lore. The venue features vintage decorative lighting sourced from India, leather dining booths, and a central wooden bar.
In keeping with Dishoom tradition, the Leeds site includes custom ‘House Rules’ tailored to the city. These include “No exchanging corn for meals”- a nod to historical Leeds market bartering – and “No stealing gold bar,” referencing the 1944 SS Fort Stikine explosion in Bombay Dock, which forms the narrative backdrop for the restaurant’s interior artwork.

The all-day menu spans breakfast through to late-night dining. Signature dishes include the popular Bacon Naan Roll, Chicken Ruby curry, House Black Daal, Keema Pau, and Pistachio Kulfi, as well as group-sharing feasts, cocktails, and traditional chai.
Shamil Thakrar, co-founder of Dishoom, said: “Leeds is a city full of character, creativity and community, and we’re delighted that Dishoom is now here. We’ve created a space that celebrates the spirit of old Bombay while giving guests somewhere to gather, share food and make memories together. From the smallest design details to the atmosphere we hope to create, every element has been thoughtfully considered.”
Dishoom Leeds will operate daily from morning until late. The café primarily operates on a walk-in basis, though reservations are available for breakfast, lunch, and limited evening tables after 6:00 PM via the Dishoom website.
