Yorkshire’s first single malt whisky distillery has unveiled an exclusive new whisky created specifically for the German market. The Filey Bay German Fair Exclusive #1 was launched at Whisky-Messe, Germany’s largest whisky fair, in Nuremberg.
The whisky is a blend of ex-Bourbon, ex-Islay, and ex-PX casks, carefully selected from the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery’s warehouse. Whisky director Joe Clark worked with German importer Schlumberger’s Andrea Caminneci and Thomas Plaue to craft the unique release.
“This exceptional whisky is fruity and complex with flavours of orange chocolate, stollen and sweet smoke,” said Mr Clark.
He explained that although Spirit of Yorkshire is not known for peated whisky, this release provides a new take on their style. “By marrying casks rather than seeking just a single cask, it has allowed for a greater degree of creative freedom to create a whisky that is very different to anything we have released before. This special bottling marries together three cask types to showcase a softly sherried and very lightly peated Filey Bay whisky.”
Bottled at 48.5% ABV, only 300 bottles of the Filey Bay German Fair Exclusive #1 are available, exclusively through Schlumberger in Germany.
The Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, based in Hunmanby, North Yorkshire, is among a select few distilleries worldwide that grow 100% of the barley used in their whisky production. This commitment to locally sourced ingredients reflects the distillery’s dedication to quality and craftsmanship.
