Strongest Ever Theakston Ale Special Reserve Hits Supermarket Shelves

Historic Masham craft brewer Theakston has launched a brand-new beer that officially becomes the strongest ale in its entire lineup.

Clocking in at 6.5% ABV, Special Reserve makes its debut on supermarket shelves this October with a national listing in Morrisons, before rolling out to Waitrose stores in November.

Brewed in Masham using fresh Fuggle hops, the traditional bottled ale delivers a rich, full-bodied taste with a subtle fruity finish. The team at the independent family-run brewery suggest pairing the 500ml bottle with strong-flavoured dishes, particularly robust cheeses like Blue Wensleydale.

The release follows a strong year for the iconic brewery, which has already expanded retail listings for its famous Old Peculier, its alcohol-free alternative Nowt Peculier, and its Salted Caramel Porter.

“As a brewery with almost 200 years of experience crafting legendary beers, we pride ourselves on staying true to our heritage while creating beers that people want to drink,” said Simon Theakston, Chairman of T&R Theakston. “Modern consumers are returning to classic styles of British ale ones which match their higher ABV value with distinctive rich and smooth flavour profiles, and so it felt the right time to create something unique for our off-trade customers with Special Reserve.”
